Heinz History Center - Western Pennsylvania Sports Museum

Carnegie Science Center

The perfect place for visitors, young or old, with hundreds of hands-on exhibits and roboworld (opening Spring 2009), SportsWorks, Rangos Ominmax Theater, interactive planetarium, Miniature Railroad & Village, Cold War submarine, River View Cafe' and Xplor Store.

 

The National Aviary

Get nose to beak with a flamingo. Talk to a parrot and stroll through a 200,000 cubic-foot indoor rainforest! Home to more than 600 exotic and endangered birds in natural habitats, the National Aviary is the perfect destination for all ages. A $23 Million expansion project will be completed in 2010. First stop Penguin Point opens on May 23! This 2,300 square foot exhibit offers 360 degree views of African Penguins as they swim and dive. Kennywood Park

The Pennsylvania Trolley Museum

The Maridon Museum

You wont need a passport to see great art from the Far East when you visit the Maridon Museum, the only museum in the Western Pennsylvania region with a specific focus on Chinese and Japanese art and culture. Located about 41 miles from Pittsburgh in Butler, the museum houses a permanent collection that includes over 800 art objects, including an Asian art collection of jade and ivory.

Three Rivers Heritage Trail System

A 37-mile trail and greenway system running along both sides of the Allegheny, Mononghahela and Ohio Rivers, that connects downtown to adjacent city areas including Oakland, the North Shore, the South Side and the Strip District.

 

Steel Valley Trail

A developing 19-mile urban trail system that will connect with the Three Rivers Heritage Trail System and other regional trails, and will pass through the Rivers of Steel National Heritage Area in the Monongahela Valley, a scenic route which was once the heart of the Pittsburgh steel empire.

 

Friends of the Riverfront

For over a decade, Friends of the Riverfront has been on the ground and in the water, working to protect and restore our region's priceless rivers and riverfronts. We are a pioneering organization that has been involved in creating nearly all of the trails you see as you bike, hike, rollerblade or paddle along our beautiful shores. Through intense collaboration with community partners, government officials, and diverse volunteer base, our rivers and riverfronts have been transformed from industrial wastelands to international examples of environmental renewal.

Folino's Ristorante

Young's Tavern started its operations in 1925 by George and Anna Young and operated as the first diner in the South Side. Later, when liquor licenses were introduced into the state of Pennsylvania, the Young family purchased the second building known as the "Dining Room". It was necessary to provide a separate entrance for women and children. Young's closed its doors after the death of Edward Young in the year 2000. Young's re-opened in 2005, when is was taken over by the Folino's, who continue operating it as Young's Tavern, know as the "locals" hangout for homemade meals, relaxed atmosphere, great food and fun.

 

Hard Rock Café Pittsburgh

The Hard Rock Cafe Pittsburgh is located at Station Square between the Grand Concourse Restaurant and the Sheraton Station Square Hotel. A one-story building with an industrial ceiling and exposed-brick stage, the new HRC has indoor seating for 200 people with additional seating on our outdoor patio to accommodate 70 guests. Guten Tag! With only 3 locations in the US, check out Hofbrauhaus Pittsburgh (in the Southside Works) for a dining experience you're sure to remember! Hofbrauhaus opened last week and offers a wide selection of German cuisine but also salads and burgers for those not so adventurous. They have a micro-brewery on site and even their waitstaff and hostesses are dressed in authentic German garb.

 

Beehive Coffee House

Over 15 years ago Scott kramer and Steve Zumoff had an idea, and idea that became the coffeshop and community we call home, this idea was the Beehive. The idea for what is a second home, to many people, often reffered to as a second living room came to Scott and Steve after having traveled the country together. The pair followed Jerry Garcia and slept in outdoor camps, and on beachs. Most of their conversations about business endevours had taken place in coffeshops, thus the Beehive was formed.

 

Bravo Franco Ristorate

Downtown's finest Italian cuisine in the heart of the cultural district. Conveniently located 50 feet from Heinz Hall, adjacent to the new O'Reilly Theater and 100 yards from the Benedum. Reservations are strongly suggested at all times. (One week in advance is recommended.)

Our dining room is subdued, with a good-sized bar, and large, connected dining areas. Large, comfortable chairs surround tables spaced so that normal conversation is possible without raising one's voice.

Six Penn Kitchen was designed to bring a new dining experience to the city of Pittsburgh.
